Welcome to Oncology Practice It is a pleasure to have you visit ASCO’s Oncology Practice Social Networking site. Many of our sister societies care deeply about the cancer problem, but ours is the society whose members are directly responsible for the care of the cancer patient. That responsibility means that our members are faced with both the nitty-gritty aspects of care (setting up and maintaining the infrastructure of cancer care, advising our patients on treatment, toxicity, and end-of-life measures, and serving as their representatives when dealing with insurance providers) as well as understanding the existing and emerging science underlying cancer care. It is a unique position in the cancer universe, and one that we take seriously both as individual physicians and as members of ASCO. The Oncology Practice site was designed with the practicing physician in mind. It is a place to learn and a place to share, through forums, blogs, interactive tools and groups. It is also a place to interface with your elected ASCO leadership on practice issues. We will strive continually to improve the site, listening to your suggestions as to how we might make it more useful. We want it to be a place of community for our community physicians. There is nothing more important than the effective, compassionate, and scientific care of the cancer patient, and our hope is that Oncology Practice will in some small way contribute to your efforts on behalf of our patients. So visit us regularly, use us, and aid us in our joint progress |
| Sincerely, George W. Sledge, MD ASCO President |
